Ultimate Mark Scratched
30 January 2009
Ultimate Mark has had a setback and will miss the Ballarat Cup
Tomorrow night's PETstock Ballarat Pacing Cup field is down to 10 runners after Ultimate Mark was this morning scratched from the $125,000 Group 1 event.
Trainer Andy Gath informed Harness Racing Victoria that the talented six-year-old was slightly lame and would not be fit to take his place in the 2710-metre mobile event.
He remains hopeful that the gelding will be fit to contest the following week's $400,000 Group 1 BIG6 Hunter Cup at Moonee Valley.
Ultimate Mark's scratching means five horses will start off both the front and back rows in tomorrow night's race. The son of Ultimate Falcon was to start from barrier six.
He is the second horse scratched from this year's Cup following Tuesday's withdrawal of Miracle Mile champion Divisive due to a suspensory problem.
That paved the way for unheralded Kiwi raider Zenad, a last-start fifth in the New Zealand Cup, to take his place in the race.
