First opened in 1976, Moonee Valley is currently the sole metropolitan venue for harness racing in Melbourne and one of the most famous harness tracks in Australia.

With the Melbourne skyline as its picturesque backdrop, Moonee Valley is located approximately 10 minutes from the CBD in the north western suburb of Moonee Ponds.


The harness racing track is 960-metres in circumference and underwent a $700,000 facelift in 2006 which saw an increase in cambers and a new base laid. Moonee Valley hosts 52 meetings per year, incorporating 39 night meetings and 13 day meetings. Its biggest annual harness race is the $400,000 BIG6 Hunter Cup.


How To Get To Moonee Valley:

By Car: Refer to Melway Ref: 28 K5. Free car parking is available in the centre car park with entries located off Dean and Wilson Streets.

By Train: Broadmeadows line from Flinders Street Station stops at Moonee Ponds Station. Moonee Valley is a 10 minute walk through Puckle Street.

By Tram: No. 59 tram from Elizabeth Street arrives directly at Moonee Ponds Junction. Moonee Valley main entrance is a 200-metre walk.

Taxis: A taxi rank is situated in McPherson Street.
